January 19, Thursday – San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina

Today we took the Seven Lakes Tour.  Because everyone on the tour was on time we even got an extra stop for an eighth Lake, Lake Nahuel Huapi.

After photos across the water to the mountains we continued through the Nahuel Huapi National Park.  We had a short stop for bathroom and coffee in the small town of Villa de Angostura.  The town was very much the feel of a ski resort with lots of Swiss chalet type architecture.  The coffee shop, Cu Cu Schultz, had lots of cuckoos on the walls.

Then it was on to the seven lakes:
Lago Espejo (Mirror Lake)

Lago Correntoso (from the Mapuche language, meaning “little girl’s house”)

Lago Escondido (Hidden Lake) - hard to see because of all the trees around it.

Lago Villarosa

Lago Falkner

At Lago Falkner we saw people fishing from a dock.

and some beautiful flowering shrubs.

Lago Machónico (from the Mapuche language meaning “ water with pancora”.  Pancoras are fresh water crabs).

The drive ended at the town of San Martin de los Andes at the end of Lago Lacár

We had lunch with a couple from Dorset England then walked to the beach for some pictures.

Then it was off through the town which had lots of roses and other flowers blooming and some interesting shops

Then we walked back to the main square where we caught the bus back to the hotel.
The drive back was along the same route with no stops except for a quick bathroom break.  Scenery along the way was mountainous and very awesome.

We had some good views of the mountains surrounding Bariloche.
